Apparently another sporting event this week, although I was in an online committee meeting at the time which went ahead as precisely none of the attendees had any interest in it.  Going by the reports from Bloomsbury colleagues who were in London at the time, we were clearly a pretty unrepresentative bunch… Congratulations to England anyway.  It should make for some interesting client meetings next week after Sunday’s final with Italy, one of which is with an Italian national and another with a couple living in Milan.  Euro 2020  [4 min read]

Many people will have seen the German child crying after Germany lost in the Euro tournament but after she was subjected to bizarre online abuse and people donated £36,000 in response, her family has decided to give the money to UNICEF.  So hopefully a lot of people will be cheered up as a result.   [4 min read]

Those with longer memories will recall the notorious three-day week in the 1970s when the UK was largely on strike.  Thing is, apparently productivity was actually higher than with a five-day one.  Now Iceland has announced the results of a four-day week experiment conducted in 2015-19 and found similar results.  As employees also report improved mental health and it might also reduce carbon footprint, maybe the future will involve spending less time at work.  Four-day week ‘an overwhelming success’ in Iceland  [2 min read]
